ISLAMABAD:

The capital police have launched a manhunt after booking a suspect for indecently exposing himself in front of women in the federal capital’s Fatima Jinnah Park.

The recreational spot is notorious for being unsafe for women as it has witnessed rape incidents before. A spokesperson for the capital police said the police are investigating the matter after registering a case and are utilising all available means to apprehend the suspect.

They have appealed to the public to immediately inform the police if they have any information regarding the accused. The spokesperson said the identity of the informant will be kept strictly confidential, and they will be rewarded with a cash prize.

Earlier this year, a young woman in her 20s was gang raped at gunpoint at the park while she was out for a walk with her male colleague.

The incident took place on February 2. According to the victim, she was visiting the park along with a male companion when she was raped by the suspects at gunpoint.

The woman and a colleague were at the park when two armed suspects showed up and held them hostage and moved them to a forested area of the park.

The two armed men forced the woman and her colleague into nearby bushes at gunpoint before separating them. They then physically assaulted the woman when she pleaded and asked them to let her go. She even offered money to them to let her go but they didn’t relent, according to the FIR lodged by the victim at the Margala Police Station.

Later, the Islamabad police claimed that suspects were killed in retaliatory fire after they allegedly shot at a police checkpoint in the capital.
