KARACHI:

During a meeting in Islamabad, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, the Head of Muttahida Qaumi Movement - Pakistan (MQM-P), expressed concern over the voter registration errors in urban and rural Sindh, including Karachi and Hyderabad.

He emphasised the need to rectify these issues promptly to enable people to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming general elections. Several officials, including Syed Aminul Haq, Hameed Al Zafar, Ijaz Anwar Chauhan, and Muhammad Arshad, were also present at the meeting.

Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui highlighted that similar complaints of incorrect voter registration, where votes were recorded in different districts or provinces, were widespread throughout Sindh.

He further explained that some households had their members split across multiple districts on the voter list. These discrepancies raised concerns and posed obstacles for voters to support their preferred candidates, thus violating their constitutional rights. Umar Hamid Khan, Secretary of the Election Commission, assured MQM-P that the matter would be promptly addressed and he would consider the party's grievances. He requested Sindh Election Commissioner Ejaz Anwar Chauhan to maintain communication with MQM-P and take immediate measures to ensure accurate registration.
