Kartik, Kiara in ‘SatyaPrem Ki Katha’ remind critics of Raj, Simran from ‘DDLJ’

Musical drama saw the two shine in a pure love story on a sensitive subject

Bollywood actors Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani, who previously starred in Bhool Bhulaiyya 2 together, have reportedly given the best performances of their career so far in the romantic comedy SatyaPrem Ki Katha. The musical drama saw the two stars “shine in a pure love story” on a sensitive subject, as per Hindustan Times.

The Indian publication even penned that Aaryan and Advani’s pair in SatyaPrem Ki Katha reminded them of Raj-Simran from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayeinge. “There's something so pleasing and calming about their screen presence, especially in the emotional portions,” read a review. They also touted Aaryan for “effortlessly blending sweetness and vulnerability” despite having previously done funny or dark roles.

“In the emotionally-charged scenes, he is top-notch, and in the funny ones, he is a pro,” they wrote. Pinkvilla also shared the same opinion about Aaryan’s acting prowess in the film. Calling his avatar as SatyaPrem a “revelation,” they exclaimed that he brought in the “much-needed flavour of innocence” in his dialogue delivery. “This can be termed his career-best act, especially for the sensitivity shown in the second half,” wrote a critic for Pinkvilla, stating that Satyaprem Ki Katha will definitely win Aaryan the family audience he needs.

About Advani, the publication called her a “show-stealer by all means.” Praising her emotive palette, critics lauded her ability to display layers in her character. “Kiara Advani as Katha brings in an element of maturity in her performance. It’s a tricky role as one wrong note on the emotional front, and everything goes for a toss, but Kiara excels in approaching and making this well-written character her own,” as per Pinkvilla. The publication also stated that audiences are sure to be vowed by her breakdown in the second half.

Filmfare, another Indian publication, also opined that the lead pair of SatyaPrem Ki Katha showed “great camaraderie on screen.” They credited director Sameer Vidwans for creating an atmosphere of hesitance and awkwardness between them, and then the actors for playing off each other and shining in those scenes. “Advani and Aaryan show a willingness to push the envelope,” wrote the critic, adding that they’ve done more in this film than in previous releases.

SatyaPrem Ki Katha opened in theatres to positive reviews on Thursday. The film has collected over INR380 million in four days. It also stars Supriya Pathak, Gajraj Rao and Shikha Talsania.
