Capital police crack down on rickshaws

90 rickshaws impounded for entering capital territory

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad capital police have launched a crackdown on rickshaw drivers for illegally entering into the premises of the federal capital, especially the rural areas. A total of 260 challans were issued to rickshaw owners while 90 rickshaws were impounded at various police stations.

According to a police spokesperson, the crackdown was part of ensuring smooth flow of traffic in the capital and its arteries. The rickshaw drivers often park on the side of the road and disrupt traffic flow. Such illegal parking can also lead to accidents, the spokesperson added.

The Islamabad CTO has issued instructions to zonal DSPs to take action against illegal rickshaw pullers on a daily basis.

A special squad has been tasked to take action against illegal rickshaw pullers by setting up special roadblocks on the Islamabad Expressway, IJP Road, Murree Road, Seventh Avenue, Ninth Avenue and all major highways of Islamabad.

Meanwhile, the education wing was providing awareness to the public about road safety on a daily basis. Special broadcasts were also arranged on the ICTP radio channel through which the police informed the public about the crackdown against illegal rickshaws.
