Four members of a family, including three children, were killed and several others injured in an ambush on Eid day in Jaranwala.
The police registered a case against the rival group of the deceased under anti-terrorism and other laws. Local residents said 18 members of the family of the deceased had been murdered allegedly by their opponents over an enmity during the past several years.
According to the police, Imran Rajput of village 206RB had gone along with his brother Muhammad Amir and his family, residents of 205RB, to meet his sister who lives in Bahmani Wala.
They were returning home after celebrating Eid on two pickup vehicles when they came under attack.
The complainants stated that the attackers riding a double-cabin vehicle and a motorcycle had opened fire at the victims near Karrianwala Bypass.
The family of the deceased nominated Shehbaz Ahmed Luna and Bilal of the 225RB area in the case.
The attack left 36-year-old Amir, his brother Imran's 12-year-old son Ali Hasan, six-year-old daughter Dua Fatima and seven-year-old daughter Muzafira dead on the spot.
Imran, aged 46, his 35-year-old wife Shehzadi, 35-year-old Farkhunda and Amir's three-year-old son Abdullah were injured.
They were shifted to the Allied Hospital by the Rescue 1122 service.
Police officers including the SP of Jaranwala and DSP of Kharrianwala reached the spot after receiving information about the incident.
The police handed over the bodies to the heirs and registered a case under sections 302, 324, 427, 148, 149 and the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) on the complaint of Wasim Aslam against the suspects nominated by him. City Police Officer Usman Akram Gondal formed teams headed by the SP of Jaranwala to arrest the suspected murderers.
Police officials said the enmity between the Rana and Luna groups had been going on for a long time in which 18 people of the Rana community had been killed during the past three years.
The victims of the enmity include a constable, two accused appearing in district courts, the plaintiff and witnesses in a cases.
The earlier deadly attacks had taken place near Gedri and Kiranwala. Police are yet to arrest the suspects.
In another incident during the Eid days, 40-year-old Asif Nisar killed his 36-year-old brother Kashif and his four-year-old son Muhammad Abdullah with a knife over a domestic dispute over lack of sale of animals in Chak 68GB and fled.
He was later arrested by the police. Police also said they had solved a murder case and found out that 19-year-old Ali Hasnain of the Samundri Road area, who had got married of his choice in Elahabad, had been killed by wife Ramsha and father-in-law Asif.
According to police officials, the suspects had called the victim to their home and murdered him, after which they hanged his body to portray the incident as suicide.
Saddar SHO Rana Umar Daraz shifted the body to hospital for post-mortem over suspicion regarding the death.
The police registered a case on the complaint of the father of the deceased. A police official said Hassan had married Ramsha eleven months ago without the consent of her family.
Four months ago, Ramsha had taken her husband to her home, where a plan had been hatched to kill him.
In another incident reported during the holidays, Meher Ghulam Rasool of Chak 549GB was sleeping at a camp on the Eid day in Chak 550GB when he was killed by unknown people on motorcycles.
The police handed over the body to the family after the post-mortem and started a search for the murderers after filing a case on the complaint of Kausar Parveen.
Usman Naseer and five other men allegedly opened fire on their opponent, 22-year-old Saqlain, on the Eid day over enmity in Sheikhupura.
He was shifted to the Allied Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The police registered a case on the complaint of the father of the victim, Saif Ali.
