QUETTA:

Unknown miscreants lobbed a hand grenade at the Civil Line police station in Quetta on Saturday.

Police sources said one policeman injured in the attack has been transferred to a nearby hospital. The officer is said to be out of danger.

The blast left the windows of the police station shattered, but the attackers escaped unhurt from the spot.

Senior police officials reached the spot as an investigation into the incident remains underway.

Meanwhile, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Quddus Bizenjo took notice of the incident and strongly condemned the attack.

He went on to direct the police to arrest the culprits involved.

According to Express News, the attack was carried out by terrorists.

In April, two blasts had rocked Quetta, killing at least four people, including two policemen, and leaving scores injured.

The first blast occurred in the city's Kandahari Bazar area, where terrorists had planted an improvised explosive device (IED) in a motorcycle parked near a police vehicle. The target of the blast was the police vehicle, according to Zohaib Mohsin, a senior police officer in Quetta.

Another blast targeted a police vehicle in the Sariab Road area of Quetta. Police sources said that four policemen were injured in the assault. They said that unidentified persons lobbed a hand grenade at the vehicle of Sariab SHO, which left four personnel injured. However, the SHO was unharmed in the attack.

About a month later, Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Amir Sirajul Haq narrowly escaped a bomb attack on his convoy in Balochistan’s Zhob.

Shortly after the blast, the law enforcement authorities declared the incident a suicide bombing and claimed that the attacker’s body was found at the site of the blast.

While the JI leader managed to remain unscathed, at least four people were injured and his vehicle was partly damaged.
