QUETTA:

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq on Saturday termed the overall situation in Balochistan “extremely alarming”, saying that the provincial government had suffered a severe loss of public trust.

In a statement, Siraj said, “Both the opposition and the parties within the government are disappointed with the current state of affairs.”

He highlighted that mismanagement and corruption had engulfed the province, leading it to turmoil.

He emphasised that peace in Balochistan was crucial for ensuring a secure future for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Unfortunately, he stated, the country's resources were being utilised to protect and enrich the ruling elite, while the nation as a whole had been left abandoned and helpless.

With millions of people experiencing soaring inflation and unrest, Siraj pointed out, resolving the situation required more than just efforts of the ruling political parties.

Regrettably, he noted, the government lacked an action plan to restore the law and order situation in the region.

At least one person was killed and four others were wounded in what the police called a suicide attack on the convoy of the JI chief in Balochistan's Zhob district on Friday.

According to the police, there was a blast inside the rally of the JI chief when he reached Zhob from Quetta.

The JI chief was immediately shifted to a safe location while the injured of the blast to the district headquarters hospital Zhob for medical treatment.

An emergency was declared at the hospital to provide proper medical treatment to the injured.
