Unemployment rate rises to 6.5%

Pakistan ranks in as 24th worst economy in terms of joblessness

ISLAMABAD:

The World of Statistics on Tuesday placed Pakistan at the 24th position in its global list as the unemployment rate in the country reached a new height of 6.5%.

According to the list, the highest unemployment in the world was recoded in Nigeria, where 33.3% of the workforce – exactly one-third – were looking for jobs. A similar situation is also witnessed in South Africa which is second with 32.9% unemployment.

Bosnia and Herzegovina have an unemployment rate of 29.28%. Among others with comparatively higher rate are Iraq with 15.55% rate and Afghanistan with 13.3%. The rate in the UK is 3.8% and USA 3.7%.

In addition, the unemployment rate in China and Canada was recorded at 5.2%. Bangladesh is ranked at 34th with an unemployment rate of 4.7%, while Qatar has the lowest unemployment rate of 0.1%.
