Wish they called it a ‘Pakistani hit’ instead of ‘Global hit’: Amar Khan on ‘Pasoori’ Indian remake

Adnan Siddiqui called Kartik-Kiara’s song ‘no good as usual’

Pasoori Nu – a remake of the original Coke Studio hit Pasoori by Ali Sethi and Shae Gill – has failed to impress fans on both sides of the border. Even Arijit Singh’s voice couldn’t save the song from being “butchered,” as per a fan. The heartbreak song was turned into a love ballad for Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani’s upcoming film Satyaprem Ki Katha.

Actors Adnan Siddiqui, Amar Khan and Ushna Shah also had something to say when the song came out and they’re all team Pakistan – of course. “And Bollywood did exactly what we feared!” wrote Siddiqui on Twitter and called the remake “no good as usual”

Khan was more disappointed by the lack of credits to Pakistan as she didn’t expect much from the remake in the first place. “Wait a second, I wish they had titled it as a ‘Pakistani hit’ because ‘Global hit’  is very smartly placed to avoid the origins of the iconic song which is made in Pakistan,” she penned.

The Dum Mastam actor, however, added that she has no “cross border hatred” because she feels the same when Bollywood ruins their own classics as well. “No cross-border hatred, I have grown up on Indian songs and I hate it when they ruin their own classics off late,” she concluded.

Shah, on the other hand, simply put a screenshot of her playlist listening to Sethi and Gill’s Pasoori. “Timeless,” she called it and it was enough to know the original cannot be replaced.

Pasoori Nu features Aaryan and Advani romance each other to the track as the video offers glimpses from the upcoming film. The actors don matching attires as they mouth the lyrics, that have been reworked in Hindi, with the original song being in Punjabi and Urdu. Pasoori Nu features music by Rochak Kohli and Sethi, with lyrics by Gurpreet Saini and Sethi.

The YouTube description of the song reinstates that Sethi reserves all rights to the original.

The fusion song has been given a Bollywood makeover for Satyaprem Ki Katha, with a new bridge, minor alterations to the chorus, and instrumentation not heard in the original. The original; a breakup song with musical influences ranging from reggaeton to the soulful tunes of the Rubab, has been transformed into a love song for Aaryan and Advani’s film.

A subpar remake at best, Pasoori Nu doesn’t carry the simplicity, nor the magic of Pasoori. With Arijit’s vocals carrying the track, changes made to the song make it a disjointed, odd hybrid of various Bollywood tracks. The pain and anguish of Pasoori, which was delivered by Sethi and Gill with ease in the original, has been extracted and replaced with feelings of desire. Pasoori Nu is a nod to Pasoori but not its replacement.
