LAHORE:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Monday was arrested once again after a Lahore special court on Saturday granted him bail against surety bonds worth Rs10,000 in a graft case.

According to sources, there was a high probability that Elahi would be released after his release as a heavy contingent of police arrived outside the District Camp Jail.

The Federal Investigation Agency team arrested former Punjab chief minister Elahi in an armored vehicle and took him from the jail. The FIA team arrested him in case number 6.

The FIA produced Elahi in district and sessions court, seeking his 14-day physical remand.

The investigation officer said that Elahi had been arrested in a new case of suspicious transactions worth missions of rupees.

The court rejected the FIA's request for a physical remand, sending Elahi to jail on judicial remand.

On the other hand, the FIA anti-money laundering wing arrested Elahi's special gunman and frontman Mohammad Zaman Chaudhry.

According to sources, Zaman is accused of being the cash boy and frontman of Elahi and involved in illegal money transfers. The FIA said that Zaman used to transact millions of rupees allegedly obtained through corruption with Saira Anwar, the third wife of Elahi.

The sources said that in February 2023, the police arrested Zaman red-handed while bringing alcohol to Saira from Punjab House Islamabad at the behest of Elahi.

The FIA obtained important evidence from the forensics of Zaman's mobile phone. The FIA obtained a four-day physical remand of Zaman.
