RAWALPINDI:

City Traffic Police (CTP) on Friday geared up its ongoing operation against professional beggars in the garrison city.

According to a CTP spokesperson, on the directives of Rawalpindi City Traffic Officer Tamoor Khan, CTP launched an operation to net the professional beggars from city roads. He urged the citizens to come forward and play a role in discouraging the practice of professional begging. Through the collective efforts of the citizens, the pervasive issue of begging could be effectively eliminated from society, he added.

He said special anti-beggar squads have been formed to nab the professional beggars. Similarly, the children involved in begging were arrested from the city roads and handed over to Child Protection Welfare Bureau (CPWB).

The CTP along with Rawalpindi district police have been conducting raids at different roads and intersections and action under the law is being taken against the beggars, he said, adding that directives had also been issued to the squad to register cases against the beggars and the report would be sent to CTO office regularly.
