Schools set up for trans community
A workshop was organised in collaboration with the social organisation Lodhran Pilot Project (LPP), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the School Education Department in which a thorough discussion on the successes and encounters of initiatives showcasing the academic and professional abilities of transgender persons and girls was held.
Speaking on the occasion, the LPP Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Abdul Saboor, said schools for transgender students had just been established in Multan and Bahawalpur for the first time in South Punjab where amenities like free education, a travel stipend and allowance, uniforms, shoes, and other items were offered in addition to their admission.
Eighty-eight transgender students were admitted to the institutions established in Multan and Bahawalpur districts.
Furthermore, each district now had three technical laboratories, information technology, vocational, and beauty parlours, which were made possible by the combined efforts of UNESCO, the Education Department and the Lodhran Pilot Project (LPP).
