Swimming, boating banned in Peshawar

DC urges swift progress on city beautification project

PESHAWAR:

Commissioner Muhammad Zubair of Peshawar Division has emphasized the need to expedite the progress of the ongoing ‘Peshawar Beautification Project’.

During his weekly visit to the project sites, Commissioner Zubair inspected the Hayatabad Jogging Track and various projects being undertaken in University Town.

Muhammad Adeel, the Project Engineer, briefed the Commissioner on the transparent nature of the ongoing work, stating that all projects under the ‘Peshawar Beautification Project’ were progressing well.

He expressed hope that the projects under the Uplift Program Phase-II would be completed before the scheduled deadline.

The Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the current pace of work but urged for further acceleration of the construction activities.

He also emphasized the importance of ensuring a smooth flow of traffic during the construction process, taking into consideration the difficulties faced by the people.

In the meantime, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Peshawar has imposed Section 144, prohibiting swimming and boating in important waterways, including Azakhel Dam.

The decision was made due to the loss of precious lives caused by swimming and boating accidents, resulting from a lack of precautionary measures. The ban aims to prevent the wastage of government resources in rescue and relief operations and safeguard the lives of the public.

The order also highlights the potential risks posed by unexpected monsoon rains, floods, and other hazards in the area.
