Numberdari system revived in Kallar Syedan

The revival of the centuries-old numberdari (village headman) system has been started from Kallar Syedan Tehsil of the Rawalpindi District.

Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatta had announced the restoration of the numberdari system earlier this month.

In line with the decision, Deputy Commissioner Hasan Waqar Cheema visited Kallar Syedan and attended the oath-taking ceremony.

Cheema administered the oath to the newly appointed numberdars and expressed that the revival of the numberdari system will enhance efficiency in the revenue system. The reinstatement of this traditional system will prevent wrongful allocation of family land, act as a witness in property registrations, identify illegal occupation of government land, and help address disputes at the neighborhood, village, and regional levels, he added.

Moreover, the DC emphasised the need to provide citizens with information about revenue-related matters to minimise their visits to offices. He assured action against individuals hindering the resolution of public issues. By reviving the numberdari system, the wide-ranging authority of the revenue department officials has been abolished, requiring patwaris to seek confirmation from the numberdar for finalising land transactions, individual records, deaths, and land documents.
