The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra), committed to upholding the consumer rights under its “zero tolerance” policy, conducted surprise inspections of filling stations to address increasing complaints from oil consumers.
A dedicated enforcement team, in collaboration with the district administration, comprehensively examined multiple filling stations in Sheikhupura district. During investigation, two filling stations in Sharaqpur Sharif tehsil were flagged for engaging in unethical practices as they were providing significantly less-than-required quantity of petroleum products.
The inspection team discovered that digital devices were illicitly installed within dispensers, enabling filling stations to deliberately provide up to 50% less fuel through manipulation via remote control.
In a statement, Ogra said that it took immediate and stringent measures against the perpetrators and FIRs were registered under the Price Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding Act, 1977. Local authorities also seized the devices equipped with remote control and six individuals were nabbed. The regulator urged the public to report any suspicions or complaints about “under-filling” or other issues for swift action.
