Suspect held over high-profile murder

Victim, a local businessman and politician, was found dead in his outhouse

MUZAFFARGARH:

Police arrested a suspect and seized two mobile phones on Saturday during the ongoing investigation into the murder of a local businessman and politician.

According to police sources, the body of former City Nazam, provincial assembly candidate and local businessman Mian Muhammad Hussain alias Munna Sheikh was found in his outhouse yesterday. Rescue 1122 officials reached the spot and recovered the body, which had been decomposed.

The deceased’s family members said that he had not been in contact with them over the past five to six days and his mobile phone was unreachable. On Friday, after a smell was emanating from his outhouse in Muhallah Sheikhupura, the family discovered his body covered in blankets.

Civil Lines police registered a case against unknown suspects on the application of the victim’s nephew, Tassaduq Shahzad and launched an investigation into the incident. DSP City Circle Rehan Rasool Afghan, along with a forensic team and contingent of police, reached the scene and collected evidence from the crime scene.

Talking to media persons, DSP Rehan said that as per the initial autopsy report, the deceased was killed by repeated blows from a sharp weapon to his head. He added that police also took two mobile phones from the scene into custody. Police also took a suspect into custody, who is being interrogated as of the time of writing.
