QUETTA:

After an exhaustive 40-day operation, rescue workers successfully recovered the bodies of two coal miners who were trapped in an underground pit in Balochistan’s Dukki district. The Assistant Commissioner of Dukki, Muhammad Hanif Kibzai, confirmed that the decomposed bodies of the unfortunate miners were retrieved, although identification was challenging due to the advanced state of decomposition.

The incident occurred on May 4 when heavy rains caused the underground mine to flood, trapping two miners while others managed to escape in time.

Unfortunately, these two individuals were deep underground and unable to make it to safety. The mine subsequently collapsed, burying them approximately 900 feet beneath the surface, as explained by Muhammad Hanif Kibzai.

During the recovery process, family members of the victims anxiously waited outside the mine. The District Police Officer (DPO) of Dukki, Syed Saboor Agha, confirmed that the bodies would be handed over to the heirs of the victims for proper burial.
