Commissioner urges people to vacate dilapidated buildings

The commissioner said that a total of 36 decrepit buildings were being vacated

In light of the on-going storm in the Arabian Sea, the Karachi administration is actively coordinating with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), and other agencies.

Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Mehmood, visited the PMD and PDMA offices to discuss measures for managing the effects of the cyclone Biparjoy in Karachi. Chief Meteorologist Dr Sardar Sarfraz informed the commissioner that Karachi is likely to experience around 100mm rainfall and winds at 60km per hour due to cyclone Biparjoy which is currently around 400km.

Eviction from derelict buildings

Commissioner Memon along with the officers of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and the district administration visited different areas of the city to review the measures to evacuate damaged buildings and remove billboards and hoardings amid storm warning. On this occasion, he interacted with the residents of the dilapidated buildings and told them that the decision to evacuate them was for their safety.

The commissioner said that a total of 36 decrepit buildings were being vacated while all the billboards and signboards were being removed. Evacuation of damaged buildings should be completed before strong winds and rains hit the city.
