Mercury soared past 40 degree Celsius with sea breeze coming to a halt

The port city experienced scorching heat on Monday as sea breezes came to a halt, leading to high temperatures reaching 40.5 degrees Celsius. The afternoon is expected to bring severe heat and humidity, with potential rainfall and thunder in the evening at certain locations. The city was gripped by exceptionally hot weather, accompanied by stifling humidity caused by the absence of south-westerly winds from the sea.

Throughout the day, a heat wave-like situation persisted, with prevailing hot desert winds blowing in from Balochistan. The Pakistan Meteorological Department reported the city's maximum temperature as 40.5 degrees Celsius, which felt even hotter, with a perceived temperature rise of 5 degrees during the unusually scorching afternoon.

The Early Warning Center of the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasts hot and dry weather to persist in the city today (Tuesday), with a chance of thunderstorms and lightning in the evening. Notably, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is predicted in the city from Wednesday to Friday, owing to the influence of a cyclone in the Arabian Sea, which may bring strong winds.

PMD predicted very hot and humid weather for most parts of the Sindh province during the next 24 hours. While thunderstorm with rain is forecast for Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Thatta, Badin, Mithi, Nangarparkar, Islamkot and their surrounding areas. Highest temperature was recorded in Dadu at 45 degree Celsius.

Highest temperature in Karachi was 40 degrees Celsius, Hyderabad 42 degrees Celsius, Sukkur 43 degrees Celsius, Thatta 41 degrees Celsius, Mohenjodaro 44 degrees Celsius, Dadu 45 degrees Celsius, Mithi 41-43 degrees Celsius, and Nawabshah 43 degrees Celsius. Mainly, very hot and humid weather is likely to prevail in the province.
