ISLAMABAD:
The Airport Security Force (ASF) foiled an attempt to smuggle 3.2 kg heroin to the UK and arrested a man at Benazir Bhutto International Airport on Sunday.
The contraband with an estimated value of Rs3.5 million was concealed in the pairs of the Mohammad Khalid’s shoes. The authorities said the British-Pakistani, Khalid, entered the departure lounge on a wheelchair posing to be a patient during the check-in of the Loundon-bound PK-785.
The passenger, carrying a bag containing two pairs of long shoes, made his way through the counters of ANF and Customs and even managed to cross ASF checking. However, an ASF female guard spotted him acting suspiciously and informed ASF SI Khawaja Mohammad who stopped him. On search, he recovered heroin concealed in the shoes.
Khalid was also captured by the ANF in 2006 for trying to smuggle 9kg opium and was convicted for his involvement in the case. The arrested man was handed over to the police for further investigation.
