People urged to jointly fight for a just society
It is necessary to raise public awareness about the human rights laws that are well protected in the Constitution of Pakistan. It will help overcome social inequalities, create a society free from prejudice and open up new avenues of progress.
This was stated by Dr Izhar Ahmad Khan, chairman of the Department of Rural Sociology at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, while addressing the awareness session on human rights jointly arranged by the Department of Rural Sociology, UAF, and the Ministry of Human Rights at the New Senate Hall of the UAF.
The session was presided over by the Director of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Human Rights, Shehzad Ahmad Khan. Assistant Director at the Ministry of Human Rights Adeel Akbar and Dr Naveed Farah from the Department of Rural Sociology at the UAF also spoke.
Dr Izhar Ahmad Khan said that forced marriages, honour killings, depriving women of their inheritance rights and violence against women were matters of grave concern for which people had to make collaborated efforts to free society from such social inequalities.
Ministry of Human Rights Director of International Cooperation Shehzad Ahmed Khan said that his ministry strove for a society in which people lived with equality.
