RAWALPINDI:

Three policemen, including a sub-inspector, were injured when unknown armed men opened fire at a patrolling vehicle in the Hazara Colony area within the limits of Rata Amaral Police Station in Rawalpindi.

Following the incident, the Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar sought a report from Rawalpindi Regional Police Officer (RPO) Syed Khurram Ali, who also arrived at the hospital to inquire about the wellbeing of the injured personnel.

Officials said a police team under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Owais was on patrol in Hazara Colony when out of the two suspects standing near a junkyard one fled away after seeing the police party approaching. The police apprehended the other suspect and shifted him to the police van, they said.

Meanwhile, unidentified suspects hiding in the junkyard and a nearby buffalo shed opened indiscriminate fire at the police team, as a result of which SI Owais and Constables Waqas and Atif sustained firearm injuries whereas the suspects managed to make good their escape, the police officials said.

As soon as the incident was reported, the police officers arrived at the spot and after shifting the injured to the hospital, started conducting raids to arrest the absconding suspects.
