Fresh taxes imposed on trade of sacrificial animals

Rs500 tax will be imposed on the purchase of large animals, and Rs100 on the purchase and sale of small animals

The Rawalpindi District Council and six municipal committees of the district have imposed a new taxes ranging from Rs100 to Rs500 on the sale and purchase of sacrificial animals to maximise their revenues.

According to sources, Rs500 tax will be imposed on the purchase of large animals, including bulls and buffaloes, and Rs100 on the purchase and sale of small animals, including sheep and goats.

They said the district council has approved seven small new markets and large stalls for the sale of sacrificial animals in different areas of the district. These taxes will be applicable on bringing animals for sale at these stalls and markets.

Sources also said district council representatives will be stationed at these mini-markets and stalls for the collection of taxes. On the other hand, municipal committees of the six tehsils of the district council including Murree, Kotli Sattian, Kahutta, Kallar Syedan, Gujjar Khan and Taxila will also be able to collect these taxes from the animal owners.

Moreover, separate taxes will be imposed on vehicles bringing animals to these markets. The charges for parking a large truck will be Rs200, a mini-truck Rs100, while car and motorcycle parking fees will be Rs20.
