Slain Ghulam Fareed’s son-in-law said to be prime suspect in triple murder case

A man allegedly killed his wife, father-in-law and a brother-in-law in Shamkot in the jurisdiction of the Chakbedi Police Station.

The suspect escaped after committing the murders.

A heavy police force reached the spot.

A man killed his father-in-law, a well-known landowner Ghulam Fareed Baloch, his brother-in-law Saqib and his wife Amina Bibi in his in-laws' house due to a domestic dispute in village Shamkot.

District Police Officer Tariq Wilayat reached the spot with a heavy contingent of police as soon as he got the information about the unfortunate incident.

The crime scene teams collected evidence from the scene.

The RPO took strict notice of the incident of three murders and sought a report from the DPO and ordered immediate arrest of the suspect.

The motive behind the triple murders was said to be suspect Zaheer Ahmed’s demand from Ghulam Fareed that the latter gave share from his agricultural land to his wife during the deceased's lifetime.

However, Ghulam Fareed was not happy about the demand, and the two used to fight over it.

Chakbedi Police Station registered a case against Zaheer Ahmed on the complaint of Ahmed Ali, a son of slain Ghulam Fareed.

In the month of March this year, a man had allegedly shot dead seven members of his family, including his mother and two brothers, over a property dispute in Pakpattan.

Local police officials had told The Express Tribune that the suspect, Sarwar, had murdered his mother, two brothers, two nephews, a niece and a sister-in-law. Another niece of the suspect was severely injured in the attack.

The suspected murderer fled after the incident. Heavy contingents of police and Rescue 1122 arrived at the scene of crime along with the crime scene department vehicles after the incident that took place in a village in the Saddar area was reported.

The officials said the suspected killer’s mother Bashir Bibi, brothers Iftikhar and Sheharyar, 22-year-old niece Miftah Bibi, 12-year-old nephew Ahad, 14-year-old nephew Ahmed and 35-year-old sister-in-law Asiya Bibi were murdered. The bodies were shifted to a hospital for postmortem.

The injured girl, 11-year-old Aisha Bibi, was also admitted to the hospital.

Pakpattan District Police Officer (DPO) Hassan Iqbal had constituted teams comprising police officers and information technology experts to arrest the suspect. Police official said some raids had been conducted to arrest the suspect. The DPO said his team would not rest until fulfilling its responsibility of arresting the suspected murderer.

Local residents said Iftikhar, Sheharyar and Sarwar had often exchanged hot words over the distribution of inherited property since the demise of their father. They had said the suspect fled along with his wife and children.

The incident shocked the residents of the village.

Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi sought a report from the Inspector-General of Police about the incident.

According to an official statement, he directed the police to ensure the arrest of the suspect at the earliest.

Naqvi asserted that further action should be taken after bringing the suspect into the stern grip of law.

He called for the submission of a report after an investigation into the incident from every aspect. He said no stone should be left unturned in the provision of justice to the heirs of the murdered people. IG Dr Usman Anwar had ordered the Pakpattan DPO to arrest the suspect within 24 hours.
