Real-life 'Fan': SRK’s doppelganger Suraj Kumar is determined to win over Bollywood's 'king'
Shah Rukh Khan's doppelganger, Suraj Kumar, has recently taken the internet by storm with his striking resemblance to the Bollywood superstar. Suraj's pictures, captured during a family outing at India Gate in the capital city, went viral and quickly garnered attention from fans worldwide. In a candid interview with Hindustan Times, the 22-year-old Suraj couldn't hide his excitement. He revealed, "I often go to India Gate to shoot videos; that's my go-to spot to make reels. I love to mimic angry SRK and enact his scenes from movies like Darr and Baazigar."
Not only is Suraj a doppelganger for SRK, but he is also an ardent fan of the actor who particularly enjoys watching his films from the 90s. "More than the new ones, I like to revisit and watch his old work -- Baazigar, Deewana, Yes Boss, Chamatkar, Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman and Maya Memsaab," he shared. Suraj expressed his admiration for the unmatched style and charm that Shah Rukh had in his earlier films. He added, "The way he spoke, his hair, his dance, his stammering... you don't get to see all that in his new films. That's why my imitations are also from his 90s films."
Suraj opened up about his journey and revealed that the response and love he is receiving now was not always there. Initially, when he would behave like Shah Rukh in public, people would think he was crazy. But after a few of his videos went viral on social media, people started recognising his talent. Now, he is approached by fans who take selfies with him and acknowledge his striking resemblance to the 90s Shah Rukh. Many have even advised him to build muscles like the actor, as Suraj aspires to become an actor himself.
Originally from Jharkhand, Suraj left his home six years ago with a dream to meet Shah Rukh Khan and pursue his passion for acting. Currently residing in Delhi, he shared his struggles and said, "My family never supported me. So, I came to Mumbai by secretly taking money from my father's pocket. I wanted to meet Shah Rukh Khan and be an actor like him." Despite visiting Mannat, Shah Rukh's residence, every day, Suraj has not yet had the opportunity to meet his idol. He admitted that if he ever gets a chance to meet Shah Rukh, he would burst into tears.
Reflecting on how it all started, Suraj reminisced about his school days when his classmates began noticing his uncanny resemblance to the superstar. Along with his passion for acting, he began mimicking Shah Rukh, dancing like him, and delivering his dialogues. Initially, he shared his videos on TikTok, but after the ban, he shifted to Instagram Reels. With 162K followers on Instagram, Suraj has gained considerable popularity and believes that his dream of meeting Shah Rukh will soon become a reality.
Suraj is optimistic about his future in the film industry as well. He expressed his joy at securing a film role alongside actor Pulkit Samrat, with shooting scheduled to start in Mumbai at the end of the month. While focusing on his work, Suraj has been assured that efforts will be made to help him meet Shah Rukh Khan. With his dream of becoming an actor already fulfilled, Suraj now eagerly anticipates the day when he can meet his idol, Shah Rukh Khan.
