Man who botched surgeries booked
Ghulam Mohammadabad Police Station has registered a case against a doctor of a private hospital on a complaint filed by the health department.
The Deputy District Health Officer, Dr. Mohammad Azim Arshad, has taken a stand in the case registered at the Ghulam Mohammadabad Police Station that Dr. Owais had performed two operations at the hospital located in Marzipora.
The complainant said that Dr. Owais had performed a knee operation on Kausar Parveen, who had actually come for a gallbladder operation, while he performed a gallbladder operation on Parveen Kausar, who had come for a knee operation.
The complainant accused the doctor of sheer negligence.
The deputy district health officer termed the condition of the two patients critical.
In August 2022, a probe body had found a doctor guilty of negligence in Mian Chunnu. An inquiry committee, which had been formed to probe the death of a 14-year-old patient, Salman Muhammad Afzal, at the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital (THQ) allegedly due to negligence by the hospital staff, had found a doctor and some paramedics guilty of the charges.
In its report, the committee had recommended dismissal of Dr. Zeeshan Haider, the prime accused of negligence, and departmental proceedings against Dr. Aqeel and staff nurse Shamim.
The report had been sent to the chief executive officer (CEO) of the District Health Authority of Khanewal.
Fourteen-year-old Salman Afzal, a resident of 16/L in Mian Chunnu, had died on August 19 due to the alleged negligence of Dr. Zeeshan Haider at the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.
The matter had been handed over to the inquiry committee which consisted of Dr. Sajjad Siyal, district health officer (DHO) of Khanewal, and Dr. Asif Mahmood Chaudhry, deputy district health officer of Mian Channu.
The committee had held Dr. Zeeshan Haider responsible for the death of the patient and recommended his dismissal from the job.
According to the statement of the staff nurse, Dr. Zeeshan Haider had allegedly not examined the teenager and disappeared after signing the duty roster. Also in 2022, a hospital had been vandalised after a teenager’s death in Chak Jhumra.
