FAISALABAD:

Under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), Faisalabad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ali Anan Qamar prohibited the public from bathing in canals and rivers within the revenue limits of district Faisalabad.

A district administration spokesman said on Wednesday that bathing and swimming in canals and rivers was a general practice in summer, as it allowed people to keep cool amid the intense heat.

However, this a dangerous practice, due to the number of youths who lost their lives while taking baths and swimming in the canals.

He said that as summer had started, there was strong apprehension that people would bathe and swim in the canals and disturb public peace.

The order has come into effect instantly and will remain in force for seven days, he said, adding that strict action would be taken against people violating this ban.
