ECP orders holding of council elections on June 15

The elections for more than 1,600 Union Committees and Union Councils, as well as nearly 8,000 reserved seats, have been successfully conducted in Sindh.

The oath-taking ceremony for over 2,500 local government representatives, including women, youth, transgender, individuals, labourers, minorities, and individuals with special needs, will be held today (Wednesday).

Reportedly, the election process for 1,600 out of 1,618 union committees and union councils, along with the election for 8,000 reserved seats, was completed on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the final results will be announced on June 8.

In Karachi, the election process for women, youth, minorities, and labourers in 240 out of 246 Union Councils has concluded, resulting in the election of 1,200 individuals in these categories.

Simultaneously, the oath-taking ceremony for approximately 2,500 reserved representatives in Metropolitan Corporations, Municipal Corporations, Town Municipal Corporations, Municipal Committees, Town Committees, and District Councils is set to take place on June 7.

The 121 reserved representatives of the Metropolitan Corporation Karachi will take their oath in the City Council Hall, while the reserved representatives of Town Municipal Corporations will do so at the relevant Deputy Commissioner's office.

ECP order

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued an order for the elections of heads of all councils, including mayor, deputy mayor, chairman, vice chairman, to be held on June 15.

The order said that the right to vote should be given to all elected representatives of local bodies across Sindh.

"On June 15, the presence of all arrested elected representatives in the elections of Head of Councils should be ensured", it stated.

All the arrested elected local representatives should be present for voting under production order. The letter further said that Chief Secretary Sindh, Dr Muhammad Sohail Rajput, should ensure the attendance of all elected representatives on the day of election.
