SHC orders clubbing of all similar pleas of PTI men
The Sindh High Court has issued notices to the Home Department and IG police among others on the application of more than 20 activists of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) arrested and exiled from Karachi under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).
A two-judge bench headed by Sindh Chief Justice Ahmed Ali Sheikh hearing the petition of more than 20 PTI workers of Karachi kept in prisons in jails of other cities of the province under MPO issued directives to club all similar applications.
The petitioners' counsel submitted that police detained these workers from different areas of the city after the May 9 incident. The detained people have nothing to do with violent protests, the petitioner said.
Sindh government has kept the arrested workers in Jacobabad, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas and other jails of the province, the counsel said requesting the court to quash the detention notification.
The court directed the petition to be consolidated with the similar pending petitions. The court issued notices to the Home Department and IG Sindh and others for June 1 and sought details regarding the detention under the MPO.
