KARACHI:

A man killed his wife by bashing her skull with a rock at their home in Orangi Town.

The suspect, Khalil Ahmed, native of Loaralai, a predominantly Pashtun district of Balochistan, was overpowered by his brothers and handed over to police.

The deceased, 35-year-old Zeba Bibi, was a mother of six children. The in-laws of the deceased say that the accused was mentally ill and was undergoing treatment for the past several years.

Responding to a distress call about the incident, a squad of Mominabad police reached the spot.

Zeba's body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities and later handed over to the family.

At the hospital, the suspect's brother Ghulam Rasool told The Express Tribune that Khalil Ahmed was suffering from mental illness for the past seven years.

Khalil was being treated for some time in Balochistan and now at a hospital in Karachi.

He was also undergoing spiritual healing.

Ghulam Rasool said Khalil flew into rage and started beating Zeba brutally on the night between Monday and Tuesday.

As she lay writhing in pain, Khalil picked a heavy rock and bashed her skull.

Ghulam Rasool said that the household and neighbours woke up hearing terrible screams and rushed to Khalil's room.

When they went into the room they saw Zeba lying on the floor bleeding profusely from the head, Ghulam Rasool said adding, "Family members overpowered Khalil and locked him in a room and informed the police."

Meanwhile, they rushed Zeba to a nearby clinic where the doctor pronounced her dead.

Khalil's family members said though he was their brother, he had done a brutal act and they want him to be punished as per law.
