Solar switch saving capital police millions

The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police said on Monday that it had saved Rs74 million by shifting seven police stations and various offices to an efficient energy system.
The environment-friendly energy-saving project envisions using solar energy to power police stations, offices and other buildings and equipment and has been rolled out after approval from the interior ministry. The main objective of this whole project is to ensure austerity and save energy.
In the last three months, this ongoing initiative has resulted in seven police stations being partially or fully converted to solar energy. They include stations in Golra, Sihala, Bhara Kahu, Shahzad Town, Sabzi Mandi, and Tarnol as well as the women’s police station.
Police said the switch has saved 68,648 units of electricity, and Rs74 million in electricity bills. The integration of solar energy ensures an uninterrupted supply of electricity to police stations by replacing conventional energy sources.
The funds previously allocated for electricity bills can be utilised to support operational duties effectively, they said.
