Role of sardars urged in ending violent conflicts

Ziaullah Langau says tribal disputes biggest obstacle to development

QUETTA:

Balochistan Interior Minister Mir Ziaullah Langau on Saturday urged tribal chiefs (sardars) and local elders to play their due role to end the tribal conflicts in order to stop the bloodshed and put the province on path of development.

In his press statement issued here, he said that steps were needed for a fair resolution of tribal disputes.

“For the welfare of the local residents and the development of the province, the elimination of tribal conflicts and mutual disputes is the most important need of the hour to achieve the goals of development and prosperity of our people,” he said, adding that due to the tribal feuds precious lives and resources are lost and people don’t have time and resources to educated their children and achieve the economic prosperity.

The minister said that the provincial government has formed a commission to make the province a cradle of peace, so that a peaceful environment could be available to the people.

Langau said that tribal disputes and mutual conflicts were the cause of major obstacles in the way of regional development.

“We have to end the regional conflicts and differences among ourselves so that to follow our dream of economic prosperity,” he observed, adding that the problems of the area need to be solved locally so that the lives of the people living here could be made easier.

Langau said that tribal conflicts left people very marginalized and many children became orphans and women became widows due to killings and looting without inviting any attention. Therefore, every conscious Baloch citizen should play his role for a peaceful Balochistan and should cooperate with their government, he noted.

In this regard, the provincial interior minister also appealed to the tribal leaders to end the tribal conflicts by using their negotiation skills and influence.

He said that since the first day, the provincial government has been trying to find out a solution to the tribal disputes and our efforts in this regard are still on with the aim to end the tribal conflicts for interest of the province.

It may be mentioned here that each year hundreds of people including family members of tribal chiefs and local influential elders are killed in tribal conflicts without inviting any attention from the quarters concerned.

Warring tribes spend huge amount of money to buy weapons, arms and ammunition for use in these conflicts which is a waste of precious little resources.

In March this year a local tribal elder Sardarzada Samiullah Langove was injured and his wife was killed when unidentified gunmen opened fire on his vehicle in Balochistan’s Kalat district on Friday.

Levies sources told The Express Tribune armed men opened fire at the vehicle of Sardarzada Samiullah Langove in the Magochar, Kalat district.
