KARACHI:

Experts in the textile industry have hailed Pakistan’s ability to meet global standards and sustainability requirements. However, they emphasised the need for raising awareness among buyers in major markets. TEXPO, the ongoing exhibition of textile products at the Karachi Expo Center, has been instrumental in showcasing Pakistan’s potential to the world.

Renowned garment industry expert from France and Director of apparel sourcing at Messe Frankfurt, Nicolas Gouguenheim expressed his admiration for Pakistan’s textile products during the three-day exhibition. He commended the industry for its impressive understanding of sustainability and highlighted that many Pakistani textile companies have obtained global certifications in this area.

According to Gouguenheim, Pakistani textile companies usually present their specific products at trade shows in Europe. However, at TEXPO in Karachi, these companies showcased their entire range, providing a comprehensive view of Pakistan’s textile industry. This display proved invaluable in understanding the capabilities of the industry.

The importance of the Generalised System of Preferences Plus (GSP Plus) for the Pakistani textile industry in the European market was also underscored. He revealed that French buyers are keenly interested in Pakistan’s GSP Plus and expressed their desire to connect with as many Pakistani companies as possible for future sourcing. To facilitate this, Gouguenheim announced plans to promote these opportunities between French buyers and Pakistani exporters at the upcoming Tax World Paris editions in July and February.

Pakistan’s Consul General in Sydney, Muhammad Ashraf added that a delegation of 15 Australian importers is actively participating in TEXPO. These importers have shown a keen interest in various textile products from Pakistan, including home textiles, carpets, rugs, leather goods, sportswear, and towels. Ashraf emphasised that the presence of Australian buyers at the exhibition is a testament to the quality and competitiveness of Pakistani products.

Ashraf further highlighted that TEXPO provides a unique opportunity for Australian buyers to explore the capabilities of Pakistan’s entire textile industry in one place.
