Cutlery Institute to be reactivated

Minister urges body to submit plan for establishing warehouses in EU, Saudi Arabia

ISLAMABAD:

In a significant development, a delegation from the Pakistan Cutlery Association Wazirabad, led by Chairman Shakeel Azam, met with Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Syed Murtaza Mahmud, on Thursday. The meeting focused on addressing the challenges faced by the cutlery industry and exploring ways to support its growth.

During the meeting, Mahmud pledged to reactivate the Cutlery Institute of Pakistan through the Technology Upgradation and Skill Development Company within the next 6 to 8 months. This move aims to bolster the industry by providing the necessary technology and skills development support. The minister assured the delegation of all possible assistance, including required certifications and training, to enhance exports to the United Kingdom.

Additionally, the minister urged the delegation to submit a viable plan for obtaining support in establishing warehouses in the European Union and Saudi Arabia, thus expanding the industry’s global reach. Furthermore, he assured the delegation that the issue of raw material availability would be addressed in an upcoming meeting of steel manufacturers.

To further enhance productivity and management practices, the minister announced that the National Productivity Organisation would provide experts to assist with improving shop floors and general management in the industry.

The minister was also briefed on a joint study conducted by the Engineering Development Board and the Pakistan Business Council. The study focused on enhancing the competitiveness of the cutlery sector and proposed policy recommendations after thorough literature review and consultation with industry members.

The delegation highlighted various challenges faced by the cutlery industry.
