Railway stations to get solar panels
In the light of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif's instructions, a comprehensive strategy has been prepared to develop Pakistan Railways on modern lines, under which solar panels of international standards will be installed at seven railway stations to save electricity.
According to sources, the solar panels will be installed at 45 railway stations and offices of Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Multan, Sukkur and Karachi divisions with a budget of Rs40 million.
In the first phase, the sources said, the Pakistan Railways has selected three points in Peshawar, five in Rawalpindi Division, 20 in Lahore Division, four in Multan Division, five in Sukkur Division, three in Quetta Division and five in Karachi Division.
After the completion of this project, solar panels will be installed at other railway stations in the country, they added.
The surplus power generated from these panels will be transferred to the Water and Power Development Authority’s main grid station.
