On the 43rd day of operations, Rahim Yar Khan Police entered the Rajwani Peninsula and took control of the secret hideout of Meera Lathani, the alleged mastermind behind kidnappings in the area.
A Punjab Police spokesperson said that police entered the dangerous Rajwani Peninsula after a fierce exchange of fire with suspects, who were taking refuge on an island in the middle of the Indus River. They were continuously resisting police with heavy weapons, but police used drones to fire pinpoint shots at the positions of the suspects. The hideout’s front door was blown up.
DPO Rizwan Umar Gondal said that the police used boats to enter the area with the help of armored vehicles from different sides. He added that Meera Lathani had dug trenches around the area and handcuffs used to bind hostages were found scattered around.
The DPO further said that police are moving forward and the Rajwani Peninsula would be cleared of gangs. According to police, three suspects were killed and 28 arrested during operations on Sunday. Moreover, five suspects surrendered to police.
RPO Bahawalpur Rai Babar Saeed said police have destroyed dozens of hideouts and established a number of camps.
