IHC prevents Shireen’s transfer to Adiala Jail
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has prevented the transfer of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shireen Mazari from Adiala Jail to another location.
The court summoned the Islamabad inspector general of police (IGP) personally on Monday (May 22) to provide all correspondence records between the Islamabad and Punjab police.
Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb issued a written order on the contempt of court petition regarding Shireen’s arrest.
The court emphasised that the Adiala Jail superintendent must not transfer the PTI leader to another facility, and that her family members and lawyers are allowed to visit her in jail.
The court also questioned why the former federal minister was arrested despite explicit court orders.
The attorney general requested additional time for arguments, which was granted by the court.
The court also instructed the Islamabad police to present a complete record of Shireen’s arrest for the third time, including the MPO (Maintenance of Public Order) order and correspondence with the Punjab police and the Rawalpindi deputy commissioner.
The court adjourned the hearing till May 22 when the IG will personally appear.
