Third-party review of WASA machinery completed
A third-party review of machinery and installations administered by the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has been completed, confirming its satisfactory performance in handling potential flood situations and draining floodwater from low-lying areas during the upcoming monsoon rains.
The inspection of machinery and installations was carried out on the orders of the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Superintendent Engineer of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department in Gujranwala, Qaiser Rashid, conducted a thorough review accompanied by a team. Rashid visited the WASA office in Rawalpindi, where Muhammad Tanveer, WASA managing director, Deputy Managing Director Salim Ashraf, and other officials were present.
The team from Gujranwala conducted a comprehensive third-party assessment of WASA's machinery, declaring it and the drainage arrangements as satisfactory. They also reviewed the cleaning of sewage lines using modern winching machines in Khayaban Sir Syed.
The team also expressed satisfaction with the progress on cleaning of Nullah Leh
Rashid said, "During our visit, we thoroughly inspected the machinery, which met our expectations. We have raised a concern about missing equipment and will closely monitor the drain cleaning work. We urge citizens not to dispose of garbage and debris in drains and sewerage lines, as solid waste can disrupt water drainage during the monsoon season and result in flooding in low-lying areas."
