LAHORE:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan assured his party’s Punjab leadership on Tuesday that all the issues would be resolved within two weeks, as he announced his plans for staging a big power show in Muridke on Thursday (tomorrow).

Imran chaired a meeting of the PTI ticket-holders from Punjab at his Zaman Park residence. He said that a “conspiracy is being hatched to eliminate Pakistan's largest political party but it will not succeed”.

It was decided in the meeting that the party would hold a power show in Punjab. In this regard, a rally would be brought out in Muridke on May 18, which would be addressed by Imran Khan.

Earlier, in a video message the PTI chairman asked the people to get ready for his call for peaceful protests for “real independence”. He lamented that the worst human rights violations were being witnessed across the country.

Peaceful protesters, including women and children, were being tortured, he said, adding: “Common citizens’ houses are being damaged and all this is being shown on the electronic and social media to spread terror among the masses.”

Imran likened the country’s situation to that of Mongolian warrior-ruler Genghis Khan. He said that whenever Genghis Khan conquered a city, he used to kill a large number of people, while leaving a few behind to tell others about his brutalities and to spread fear so that the scared people accepted defeat without any resistance.

“The same is happening in Pakistan today. Citizens are being detained illegally, tortured and their properties are being damaged and all this is being shown on television and social media to harass the public,” the PTI chief maintained.

He said that there was no such example in the country’s history when women had to face humiliation and torture, which they were being subjected to today. “People are being abducted and arrested from roads just to deny the right to peaceful demonstration.”

The PTI chairman further said that they wanted to enslave the nation but the nation should know that it was the time to mount struggle for the “real independence” for which everyone had to give sacrifice.

“Fascism rampant in the country but the nation has decided not to accept slavery. The nation has decided to uphold the Constitution, the rule of law and the supremacy of the judiciary,” he continued.

“We demand freedom from the current government of thieves and free and fair elections in the country. We need real public representative, elected by the people,” he said. “The nation has to break the idols of fear and stand up for their rights and the Constitution.”
