Three children drown in neglected watercourse

Lax measures near Tessar Town watercourse continues to pose threat to safety

KARACHI:

In a heartbreaking incident, a watercourse near Tessar Town claimed the lives of three young children. The victims, two brothers aged seven and eight, and their 12-year-old neighbour, were engaged in play near the watercourse when an unfortunate slip led to their tragic drowning.

The parents of the children are now grappling with grief while also expressing their disappointment in the lack of safety measures taken by the government. Despite previous drowning incidents in the same watercourse, authorities have failed to implement necessary precautions, according to the families. This negligence has resulted in the devastating loss of innocent lives.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Sunday in Tesser Town Sector 36 of the Surjani Town police station. Sanaullah, aged 12, Samir, aged 7, and Abdul Jabbar, aged 8, all fell victim to the watercourse's treacherous depths. Sanaullah and Samir were siblings, while Abdul Jabbar lived nearby.

When the children did not return home in the evening, their worried parents launched a search. A local child provided crucial information, mentioning that he had spotted the three children heading towards the watercourse. The parents rushed to the scene, discovering the children's abandoned slippers and shoes on the watercourse's bank.

After an arduous search, the lifeless bodies of the three children were found. They were transported to a nearby hospital on a motorcycle and transferred to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal procedures. The families are now left to mourn the loss of their beloved children with deep-seated sorrow and a sense of injustice towards the lack of preventative actions taken by the government and relevant authorities.
