SBCA to crackdown against illegal portions

During the last decade, many people demolished their old houses and constructed structures having small portions

KARACHI:

Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) Director General Muhammad Yasin Shar Baloch has announced the authority's decision to take strict action against illegal constructions in the city.

In a statement, he instructed SBCA officers to take strict action against those who build additional floors and portions illegally.

Baloch also highlighted that the construction and sale of commercial flat units on residential plots is illegal under Clause (1) 19 of the Sindh Building Ordinance 1979/82. He warned that disciplinary action will be taken against contractors, brokers, and buyers involved in illegal transactions.

During the last decade, many people demolished their old houses and constructed structures having small portions. Therefore, in place of a two-storey house on 240 square-yards, with four bedrooms, where a family of six people lived, there stands a three-storey building with two three-bed apartments on each floor.

So instead of a family six individuals, the electricity, water and sewerage system has to bear the load of six families or at least 24 people.
