KARACHI:

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah directed police to ensure peace and safety of public and private properties, and unblock all roads to ensure free and smooth movement of all vehicular traffic. The CM said that Pakistan Tehreek-eInsaf (PTI) workers have torched several government vehicles, including public transport buses, water tankers, and waste collection vehicles, after the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan Niazi in a case registered against him by National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

In a statement issued from the CM House on Wednesday, the chief minister stated that the arrest of Imran Khan was carried out under the law, as confirmed by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in its judgment. He said, the PTI workers engaged in activities against the law across the country, particularly in Karachi, where they blocked Sharea Faisal and other roads. He said that the protest has caused major disruption for commuters and affected the daily lives of millions of people, including those travelling to the airport for their flights. "The PTI workers also damaged private cars and buildings, assessment of the damages is being carried out," he said.

The police have taken necessary measures, arrested many rioters and cleared roads to maintain peace and prevented further damages to the public and private property. The district administration and Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) cleared roads and removed the torched and damaged vehicles. The CM visited several areas at night to ensure that peace prevailed in the city and that anyone causing any threat to the safety and security of life and property is dealt with strictly under the law. Murad also urged residents of Karachi to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and abide by the law to ensure everyone's safety and security.
