From 'No More Lies' to 'Queen Charlotte:' T Magazine picks of the week

Here's what to watch, play and listen to this week

Listen this week: No More Lies by Thundercat and Tame Impala

Two musicians with animals on their names, often mistaken as a band, joined forces in a smoothly-layered track about failing relationships. The result is so seamless that you wonder, why did it take Thundercat and Tame Impala this long to work on a track together?

Thundercat’s first original track since 2020 takes listeners through a woozy romance destined to end. The unexpected collaboration is perfectly executed with a raw, jazzy sound, and lyrics around letting a lover go and loneliness, while the video shows a racing cheetah and gazelle.

Read this week: The Sympathiser by Viet Thanh Nguyen

This year’s Pulitzer Prize for fiction went to Viet Thanh Nguyen’s first spy novel which shows the Vietnam War from a Vietnamese perspective. In the opening pages, the terror feels so real that you'll mistake your beating heart for helicopter blades thumping the air. The story which begins at the fall of Saigon is about a Vietnamese communist spy who relocates with a general in the South Vietnamese Army to California, and Nguyen brings us right inside the barbed-wire-encircled home of the general just waking from his faith in American resilience.

Binge this week: Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story

With Julie Andrews’ voiceover as Lady Whistledown declaring it as the story of Queen Charlotte from Bridgerton ― not a history lesson but inspired by fact ― the new show is a treat for Bridgerton fans who live in and love Bridgertonverse! Did we really need a spinoff prequel? Yes.  As an essential companion to the show, it creates a rich and interesting origin story. Revel in the volatile, youthful romance between the two royals as they enter into marriage for who can make a better sizzler than Shonda Rhimes.
