Pakistani delegation meets Canadian mayor to strengthen trade, investment

With support of private sector, trade and tourism between two countries can be further increased, says Khurshid Barlas

A delegation comprising prominent members of the Pakistan Association of Exhibition Industry, along with other business leaders and officials, had a productive meeting with Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown at a local hotel in Islamabad.

The discussions centered around enhancing bilateral relations and fostering cooperation in various fields, including trade, investment, and tourism between Pakistan and Canada.

During the meeting, Mayor Brown initiated a conversation on the current global situation and underscored the significance of strengthening ties between Pakistan and Canada. He emphasised the deep-rooted friendly relations that exist between the two nations and expressed the need to further bolster cooperation, particularly in the realms of investment and trade.

Chairman Khurshid Barlas, representing the Pakistan Association of Exhibition Industry, acknowledged the existing cordial relations between Pakistan and Canada and highlighted the vast investment opportunities available to Canadian investors in Pakistan.

He emphasised that by leveraging the potential of the private sector, bilateral trade can be further expanded.

Barlas also pointed out specific sectors where increased collaboration could be mutually beneficial. He highlighted the potential for Canadian investors to explore opportunities in textiles, leather goods, sports products, chemicals, carpets, and medical equipment in Pakistan.

This cooperation would not only contribute to the growth of the Pakistani economy but also open avenues for Canadian businesses to tap into a dynamic and emerging market.

In response to the discussions, Mayor Brown extended a cordial invitation to Chairman Khurshid Barlas to visit Canada with the aim of promoting bilateral trade. The visit would serve as an opportunity to strengthen ties, foster business relationships, and explore avenues for further collaboration between the two countries.

As both countries look to expand their trade horizons and explore new avenues of collaboration, this meeting sets the stage for a promising future characterised by increased bilateral trade, investment, and exchange.
