I went into depression: Priyanka Chopra recalls botched nose surgery and losing films
Priyanka Chopra Jonas has opened up about a botched cosmetic procedure that significantly impacted her mental health. In a recent interview with Howard Stern, she talked about how a botched nose surgery affected her confidence and mental health. The surgery was performed in the early 2000s when doctors recommended removing a polyp in her nasal cavity.
The surgery left her feeling devastated, and her face looked completely different. Chopra Jonas described it as a dark phase in her life, where she fell into deep depression. The aftermath of the surgery was so bad that she was fired from three different movies, and she thought her acting career was over before it even started. In her words, "It was a tough time. I went into a deep, deep depression. It affected me emotionally, physically, everything.”
Chopra Jonas said she didn't leave the house for an extended period, and her mental health was at an all-time low. However, her dad, who is a doctor himself, encouraged her to get corrective surgery done. She was terrified of the idea, but he offered to be in the room with her and held her hands throughout the surgery. Her father's support helped her regain her confidence, and she started to build back her career.
In her memoir, Unfinished, Chopra Jonas had revealed that the botched surgery left her feeling "devastated and hopeless." She wrote about how it impacted her life and made her realize the importance of self-acceptance, her health and well-being. She said, "I've realized that everyone has a different body, and it's important to accept yourself the way you are."
The actor added that she had a "lingering head cold" in the summer of 2001, which she initially thought was a sinus infection. She later found out that it was a polyp in her nasal cavity that required surgery.
Although a polypectomy seemed like a routine procedure, the doctor accidentally shaved off the bridge of her nose while removing the polyp, resulting in a collapsed bridge. Chopra Jonas and her mother were horrified when they saw the condition of her nose after the bandages were removed. "My original nose was gone. My face looked completely different. I wasn't me anymore," she said.
