Global citizen: Anushka Sharma to make her much-awaited Cannes debut

Anushka's presence is sure to make waves on the red carpet

Renowned Indian cinema star Anushka Sharma, who is the brand ambassador of cosmetic giant L'Oreal, is expected to grace the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival this year. The announcement was made after she and her husband, Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli, met with French Ambassador to India, Emmanuel Lenin, at the French Embassy in New Delhi.

The Ambassador tweeted a photo of the meeting and shared that he had wished Kohli and the Indian cricket team all the best for their upcoming tournaments, as well as discussed Anushka's trip to the Cannes Film Festival. Anushka Sharma is known for her roles in popular Bollywood films such as Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, PK, Band Baaja Baaraat, Sultan, and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

As a brand ambassador of L'Oreal, Sharma is expected to represent the cosmetic giant at the prestigious film festival, which is scheduled to take place later this month. Last year, the star had shot for the brand's advertisements in Paris and had shared glimpses from her time there on her social media handles.

Indian representation was strong at the Cannes Film Festival last year as well, with Deepika Padukone leading the pack as a jury member. Other Indian attendees included actors Pooja Hegde, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Tamannaah Bhatia, Grammy-winning composers AR Rahman and Rickey Kej, and actor R Madhavan, whose film Rocketry: The Nambi Effect premiered at the festival. TV stars Hina Khan and Helly Shah were also present.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who is a veteran of the Cannes Film Festival, made back-to-back appearances at the event. In the past, Deepika Padukone, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, and other Indian celebrities have made a splash at the festival with their stunning red-carpet appearances.

Unfortunately, actor Akshay Kumar, who was also on the guest list last year, had to cancel his trip after he contracted Covid-19. With the pandemic still ongoing, this year's festival may see some changes, but Sharma's presence is sure to make waves on the red carpet.
