PESHAWAR:

Four people, including two children, lost their lives while two others were injured in different mishaps during heavy rains and hailstorms in different parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority report, three people, including the two children, died in Lakki Marwat and one in Shangla.

According to rescue sources, a 12-year-old boy was swept away and died near Dal Mills in Lakki Marwat city. His body was retrieved.

On the other hand, in Dallo Khel village, the body of a 13-year-old body was recovered from the debris of the basement of a house. The sources said water had entered the house due to which the wall of the basement collapsed on the child.

“Rescue teams recovered the child's body after several hours of rescue operation.”

The bodies of the two children were shifted to Government City Hospital, Lakki Marwat for medico legal formalities.

According to the report, crops and gardens in different areas were severely damaged while roads were completely blocked for all kinds of traffic.

The PDMA has directed the district administration and Rescue 1122 to remain alert. As per the PDMA, steps were being taken to open the blocked roads.
“The situation is being continuously monitored.”

The PDMA had issued a letter on April 26 to all agencies concerned and the district administration regarding the weather situation, in which instructions were issued to take precautionary measures regarding rains, hailstorms and floods.

In Lakki Marwat, heavy rains destroyed the wheat and standing crops in the fields.

The sources cited many illegal constructions and encroachments by influential people on waterways and storm drains throughout the district as the main reason for accidents and damages happening every day.

In Mohmand, the rescue sources said, heavy rains and flash floods caused extensive damage in the Kandari area where 35 cattle were killed while wheat and vegetable crops were washed away.

According to details released by the district administration, heavy rains in Mohmand tribal district caused heavy damage to crops and livestock in Halimzai and Safi tehsils.

According to Tehsildar Safi Wasif Khan, more losses were caused due to rain and flood in Safi tehsil in Kandaro, in which 14 sheep, two cows and 21 goats got trapped in a mountain as well as rain drains and died.

In the same tehsil, three homes were also damaged as two rooms of a house collapsed, while one of two each caved in.

Due to heavy rains and stormy winds, four walls of a house stretching along 20 metres also collapsed.

The Safi tehsil area suffered the most damage as hundreds of acres of ready crops were also destroyed.

While in Halimzai, Ghazi Beg and Kamali tehsils, the wheat kernels in the fields were washed away. Vegetable crops have also been destroyed in the fields.

The Met Office predicted that rain and wind-thunderstorm is expected at scattered places in upper K-P, Islamabad, upper Punjab, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

It also said that rain-wind thunderstorm is likely at a few places in north eastern Balochistan and Sindh.

According to the synoptic situation, a westerly wave is affecting upper and central parts of the country.
