I’d shoot myself than be a 'superstar' doing only one kind of role: Nawazuddin Siddiqui
Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who has made a name for himself in the Indian film industry for his diverse and critically acclaimed performances, is known for his dedication to his craft and his refusal to compromise on his acting skills to become a superstar.
In a recent trailer launch event for his upcoming romantic comedy Jogira Sara Ra Ra, Nawazuddin spoke about his journey in Bollywood, which spans over two decades. He emphasized on the need to continuously grow as an actor and said he cannot limit himself to a particular style of acting.
“You learn everyday, it’s a new experience which helps enhance your craft. I can’t act the way I used to 20 years ago because today I carry the experience of those many years. It’s important to evolve constantly and with experience, acting also changes,” News18 quoted him as saying. “I can’t be stuck. If someone tells me that they’ll make me a superstar but I’ll have to do just one kind of role, I’ll shoot myself. I’ll quickly get bored, quit it and join some other field,” he added.
Speaking about the importance of not being motivated by fame but by the desire to satisfy one’s artistic curiosity, Nawazuddin held that even if it means working on a low-budget project or not receiving payment, he would commit to his craft. “I just finished a film in Frankfurt, which had a unit of only 10 people. It’s not a big film, but a deep film. I’m also doing a big South film of several crores. It’s important to have this adjustment in your body, your thought process only then can you try becoming an actor. Otherwise, it’s all images, something is attached with your name— someone is mega, someone something else. But my attempt is only to keep experimenting,” he added.
One thing that sets Nawazuddin apart from other actors is that he refuses to be typecast into particular roles. He believes that if he were to be restricted in this way, he would likely quit acting altogether. Nawazuddin feels that it is essential to keep evolving constantly to remain relevant in the film industry. His commitment to his craft and refusal to compromise on his acting skills are an inspiration to many aspiring actors.
