QUETTA:

All Pakistan Mines and Labour Associations President Sultan Muhammad Khan on Monday demanded the provincial and federal governments to increase the daily wages of labourers in view of skyrocketing prices of the commodities.

"Inflation has compounded the problems of labourers across Pakistan", Khan said in a protest that his organization staged outside the Quetta Press Club. International Labour Day was observed across Balochistan to pay tribute to the Chicago martyrs as various labour organizations and political parties took out rallies, terming their sacrifices a great achievement for labourers across the globe.

“Labourers are the worst sufferers of inflation in the country,” President Khan stated. Thousands of coal miners working in Balochistan, he added, were facing financial issues. "Besides inflation, the miners are also losing their lives inside the mines," Khan said.

The protesters were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans to pay rich tribute to the martyrs of Chicago. They demanded better salary packages for the working class across Pakistan.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo also paid rich tribute to the martyrs of Chicago and said that his government was making efforts for the implementation of labour laws in the province.

CM Bizenjo stated that labourers were playing a key role in the development and prosperity of the country and nation. "We salute our labourers for their sacrifices," Bizenjo stated.

Rallies were organized in Loralai, Sibi, Khuzdar and other parts of the province. In their addresses, labour leaders, paying rich tribute to the martyrs of Chicago, urged the government to ensure the implementation of labour laws.
