A young woman has approached the Sindh High Court (SHC) for the arrest of the alleged killer of her father who she had identified through social media 15 years after the brutal murder.
In a petition filed at the SHC, Maham Amjad argued that Syed Taqi Haider Shah had been declared a proclaimed offender by the sessions judge for Karachi's South District in 2010, but the law enforcement agencies did not take concrete steps to arrest him and he managed to flee the country.
The data for the arrest of the accused was also not shared with the Interpol.
On Sept 27, 2022, a permanent arrest warrant was issued for the accused after an application had been in the trial court. The subordinate court also ordered to block the passport of the accused.
Moreover, the FIA did not make any serious effort to arrest the accused, who managed to renew his identity card on Nov 7, 2022.

However, due to the petitioner's efforts, the accused's passport and identity card were blocked on Nov 24, 2022. Maham has requested the issuance of instructions to FIA and the police to demand the extradition of the accused from the UAE.
While speaking to the media after filing the petition, Maham said that everyone knows that the alleged killer of her father has been arrested in the UAE 15 years after the murder - that too when she identified him through social media.
She added that the accused was first arrested in Dubai.
Dubai gave him bail after 40 days because they can’t keep a criminal in jail for longer because of human rights cell. He was again arrested by Sharjah and now rests in Sharjah jail as I was in constant threat by the murderer.
Despite the threat, the Consulate, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Sindh Home Department have not taken any action.
Maham said that she has been in touch with the Pakistani ambassador, but when the UAE authorities returned the documents regarding the suspect's extradition as incomplete, the Pakistani envoy and consulate did not inform her.
